Top Trendy Colours in 2025

Dear Luxury Lover,

As we step into a new year, the world of interior design is abuzz with exciting trends that promise to transform our living spaces. As an abstract artist specializing in large format art for quiet luxury interiors, I'm thrilled to delve into the top colour trends for 2025, as discussed by the most renowned paint companies, interior designers and decorators.

Analysing the trend colours I can’t help but notice the 3 main topics that intertwine:

  1. Cohesive design which can be achieved through uncluttered spaces, clean lines, unified aesthetics through colour and pattern drenching.

  2. Biophilic design.

  3. The battle between minimalism and maximalism.

Top trends - unified aesthetics

I’m delighted to see that the clean design is here to stay. As we often discuss in Quiet Luxury Journal, clean and uncluttered spaces are one of the hallmarks of quiet luxury.  In 2025, designers are opting for that seamless look that can be achieved by concealed doors where you can hide all your appliances, or just reorganizing and decluttering your open spaces. It's all about creating a sense of calm and serenity in a busy world. This trend is perfect for those who value simplicity and minimalism and I couldn't be more happy about it. If you are looking for some great tips on how to make your space more organized, I recommend this resource which can give you some inspiration

Top designer trends - what is colour drenching?

Another powerful trend discussed by the designers is the drenching, the ultimate game-changer in interior design. It’s not a new phenomenon in the design but it took the designer space by storm early 2020 and it is here to stay.  I have found some beautiful scheme examples in this blog if you want to explore the colour drenching further.

Simply put, drenching is about creating a complete harmony and a visual flow through the use of one element, pattern, colour or even material. Interior designers create a cohesive look that ties together different elements in the space - think the same colour of walls and the ceiling or the same pattern used on the wall paper, the upholstery of an armchair and on the cushions or the use of marble on the floor, walls, kitchen counter, backsplash or even flower pots. I personally love this technique especially when it comes to colour drenching. As a minimalist lover I feel like the pattern drenching may easily become too busy and overwhelming, so this wouldn’t be my preferred choice. Currently we also see double drenching gaining in popularity which simply means that two or three related colours are used to fill the whole space and you can see some examples here.

If you wish to read more on colour drenching roots and discover benefits I recommend this resource.

Top designer trends - creating a home sanctuary

We have been discussing the importance of home sanctuary in the previous issues of Quiet Luxury Journal so I couldn’t be more happy to see the development towards spaces infused with personality, calm and an open invitation to relax and unwind.

It’s quite a popular opinion among the designers that  interior design has never been more important to the average person. Shay Holland, interior designer and HGTV host, says "More than ever we are embracing home as a sanctuary, a trend that started in the pandemic and has only picked up momentum. We want homes infused with our personality, not spaces that feel like we stumbled into some TikTok influencer's photo-ready stage.” I invite you to read this very interesting prediction published by Forbes here.

What is a biophilic Interior Design Trend?

An excellent way to bring the sanctuary and create a relaxing atmosphere is biophilic design, a trend gaining popularity in 2025. I remember the first time I came across residential biophilic architecture and designs was during my travel through Asia. I was amazed how big and modern cities like Singapore include nature into the architectural and interior design projects.  I’m so glad to see that this incredible trend starts to gain momentum globally.

Biophilic design is a design philosophy which incorporates elements of nature into infrastructure. It’s all about connecting with nature. Scientific research has demonstrated the beneficial impact of nature on our psychological and physiological well being. This trend features excess of natural light, use of raw materials and indoor tropical gardens

Relaxing and calming atmosphere can also be achieved through the nature inspired colour palette - natural colors, greens, earthy tones create calming organic spaces. Think lush greenery found in tropical plants, forest green or alternatively more calm and soothing sage greens with a cool blue undertone, and olive greens that add warmth and coziness to any room. These can be complemented by neutral tones of beige and grey. This cohesive colour scheme will create a tranquil environment.

If you are interested to see some interesting biophilic projects, I invite you to be amazed by these 7 extraordinary biophilic projects.

As you can see this trend has so much to offer, and except for incorporating greenery to bring life and vibrancy to spaces, it can be characterized by the following features:

Natural materials and textures in biophilic design

Biophilic interiors use natural materials like wood and stone to add warmth and texture. Texture can be added by the use of accents like natural fibre rugs and woven baskets which enhances the organic vibe of the space.

Water elements in biophilic design

Addition of water elements like indoor fountain providing a calming sound and a welcoming ambience can make a subtle yet significant difference in setting the tranquil tone for your space.

Top Trendy Colours of 2025

Now finally, moving on to the top colour trends, this is where I see a battle between minimalism and maximalism. On one hand the maximalism is on its way out and being replaced by Quiet Luxury to quote interior designer Becky Shea "Quiet luxury, which emphasizes subtle elegance and thoughtful simplicity, continues to make waves across various facets of life, including fashion, cuisine, and interiors. This enduring trend suggests that interior design will move away from the maximalist use of bold colors and lean toward a more balanced and controlled aesthetic. A return to harmony—where bold colors are used selectively rather than saturating every surface—will allow spaces to feel curated and timeless."

I invite you to read the full article here. As you can probably imagine, I couldn’t be more happy about this prediction.

At the same time, it looks like there is also a trend towards a more layered approach as outlined by designer Ursula Carmona,  founder of homemadebycarmona,  one of my favourite interior designer blogs: "Folks are shifting towards a more layered and nuanced approach to design. Even those who prefer simple style and neutral colors are beginning to incorporate a variety of hues, textures, and overall depth like a leather accented armchair from HomeGoods  paired with an emerald cashmere blanket and a marble side accent table."

2025 top trends - bold, moody, rich colours

I’m looking at three paint colour brands loved by interior designers: Behr, Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams. It’s evident that beautiful, deep, moody and rich colours are making a comeback in 2025. Think rich burgundy, warm reds, velvety browns – these earthy shades will add depth and warmth to any space and will easily help us create the timeless look and layered approach.

Cinnamon Slate is described by Benjamin Moore as a “delicate mix of heathered plum and velvety brown. Its rich and inviting shade adds warmth, style and modern sensibility to any space.”

In terms of the 2025 trend palette proposed by Benjamin Moore, we can see many earthy shades which aim to “evoke a sense of comfort and coziness”, a perfect match for the biophilic interiors.
